FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 30, 2006

Monetra® Receives Second PABP Security Validation

Gainesville, FL, October 30, 2006 - Main Street Softworks, Inc., a leading developer of integrated payment processing software for retail point of sale, e-commerce systems and embedded applications, today announced the completion of its second successful Visa USA Payment Application Best Practices (PABP) security audit for the Monetra® payment processing server software.

“As one of very few companies to have successfully completed the strenuous PABP validation twice in as many years, it is clear that Main Street is setting the standard for security within modern payment applications.” said Brad House, Main Street's senior developer for the Monetra products. “The payment processing industry has one of the most rapid upgrade and enhancement cycles around—changes are announced at least twice a year from the card associations and even more for some processors. Products that do not keep pace with industry-mandated changes rapidly become obsolete and can cost users millions of dollars in transaction downgrade penalty fees. Main Street will continue to evolve and innovate our product line while raising the bar for the competition.”

As in the past, the Monetra product was found to meet or exceed all 13 of the PABP security criteria without requiring any additional, external support such as operation within secure network environment (as many other systems require). “Remaining true to our proactive approach to security, Monetra® has since its inception provided built-in, 'out-of-the-box' security features including full-strength cryptography for sensitive data encryption, secure communications, and internal IP filtering/firewall,” Brad House explained.

A key component of the PCI-DSS security standards (formerly CISP), the PABP validation audit mandates a stringent third-party assessment addressing the design, implementation, and documentation of payment application security. Main Street's PABP validation was administered by Security Metrics, Inc., a Visa-approved security assessor, and accepted by Visa USA October 30, 2006.

Over the past year, thousands of merchant locations using Monetra payment software have been validated to comply with the payment card industry security standards. “Our unique application program interface securely moves transaction data to the Monetra server, where it is encrypted and stored for subsequent processing activities,” explained Brad House. “This architecture eliminates the need to store any sensitive card data at the point of sale, reducing the complexity of card data processing within the point of sale system and, in doing so, making it much easier for developers to deliver a security-compliant solution,” he added.

“We fully endorse the new security standards evolving within our industry today,” said Main Street's president, Darryl Wright. “In fact, we don't stop at the PCI-DSS security standards, we exceed them: Monetra also supports the inclusion of a FIPS 140-2 validated cryptographic runtime as defined by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. This additional security framework was implemented to help our US and Canadian based government clients achieve compliance with federal regulations regarding the use of cryptography to secure sensitive data” he said.
