Main Street Softworks Monetra® Receives Visa USA Security Validation

Gainesville, FL, October 12, 2005 - Main Street Softworks, Inc., a leading developer of electronic payment processing software for retail point of sale and eCommerce systems, today announced the successful completion of the Visa USA Payment Application Best Practices (PABP) security audit for Main Street's Monetra® payment processing software.

“We are very pleased but not surprised with the results of the PABP audit,” said Brad House, Main Street's senior developer for the Monetra products. “The Monetra software was found to meet or exceed all of the PABP security criteria without requiring any additional, external support such as a secure VPN (virtual private network) or other systems. Main Street has always been an industry leader in the design, development, and deployment of secure payment applications. Remaining true to our proactive approach to security with all software we create, Monetra® has since its inception provided built-in, 'out-of-the-box' security features including full-strength cryptography for sensitive data encryption, secure communications, and internal IP filtering/firewall,” he explained. “This PABP validation underscores Main Street's ongoing commitment to protecting the confidentiality and integrity of sensitive data.”

A key component of the Visa USA Cardholder Information Security Program (CISP), the PABP validation audit mandates a stringent third party assessment addressing the design, implementation, and documentation of payment application security. Main Street's PABP validation was administered by Security Metrics, Inc., an approved CISP/PCI security assessor, and accepted by Visa USA October 3, 2005.

“We encourage and fully endorse the new security standards evolving within our industry today,” said Main Street's president, Darryl Wright. “Businesses that in the past were able to ignore information security concerns are now confronted with the challenge of achieving compliance with these standards in an environment where computers performing credit card processing functions -- even cash registers -- are increasingly connected to the public Internet,” he said. “The use of networking and high-speed Internet connections such as DSL are creating significant security risks for older-generation transaction systems. Visa USA regulations now require everyone accepting and processing credit card transactions to ensure the security of card holder information,” he added.
