Question: Why shouldn't I settle after every transaction?
|
Answer:
There are many reasons why it is a bad idea to settle after every transaction.
There are usually fees associated with each batch that is settled, independant of the fees charged for the authorizations themselves.
Many processing institutions impose limits on the how often you can repeat batch numbers. VITAL, for instance, limits you so that you cannot settle the same batch number within a 7 day period. Considering VITAL has a maximum number of 999 batch numbers, if you ran 200 transactions a day (while running a settlement after each), you would get failed settlements during the 5th day!
You would probably get a very nasty call from your processor demanding you change your behavior because of the additional (unnecessary) stress put on their systems. Most likely a per-day fine would be imposed until the situation is resolved.
IMPORTANT: There is no benefit in settling after every transaction!!! You won't get your money any faster, as credit card processing is batch-based. Most processors have a cut-off limit where you need to settle your transactions before that time so you will be included in their daily batch-out on their own backend (you may ask your merchant account provider for that information).
Monetra can automatically settle at a certain time, daily, and e-mail you the status report of that settlement. Why add the additional hassle of manually settling anyhow?! (See the documentation on our internal CRON functionality for more information on this feature).
