Question: How do I make Monetra speak to my Interbase or FirebirdSQL database?
Answer:

Note: Make sure you are running Monetra 4.4 or higher!

Here are the steps to configuring your environment:

  • Add a database named 'monetra.fdb' to your Interbase/Firebird system. (you may need to set the page_size to 24K or 24576)

  • Using isql, log into your new database, and add the lower() command to the database, by doing:
    DECLARE EXTERNAL FUNCTION lower
    CSTRING(80) RETURNS CSTRING(80) FREE_IT
    ENTRY_POINT 'IB_UDF_lower'
    MODULE_NAME 'ib_udf';

  • Configure your system ODBC for Interbase/Firebird, connecting to the new 'monetra.fdb' database. Make sure you set nowait for Initializing transaction, and Dialect to 3. The remaining options should be defaulted to correct values.

  • Open the Monetra Configurator. Under 'modules', load the monetra_msodbc.dll module (if on Windows), or monetra_unixodbc.so/moentra_iodbc.so, depending on which you have setup (if on Unix).

  • In the Monetra Configurator, Under 'database', set your Type to the corresponding Module loaded in the previous step, then if you did not configure a username/password in your System ODBC, you must enter that info into the 'database' window of the Monetra Configurator. Also, set your DSN to the name of the ODBC System profile you created.

  • If you're running Interbase, and NOT FirebirdSQL, you need to set ODBC Supports Text Type to no, and ODBC Lock Type to INTERBASE, as auto-detection will not work (but will on Firebird)

  • If you followed those steps, you should be able to start Monetra successfully, and process transactions.
